Candidate Can’T Keep His School Bus Yellow
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Bill Mauk said he would repaint a little yellow school bus he bought for his campaign after media outlets and a number of state agencies received anonymous complaints.
The Boise lawyer running against Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Crapo said he was unaware of a state law requiring that buses no longer being used to transport students be painted a color other than the traditional yellow.
“We’re taking it all in stride and plan to be in compliance as soon as we can get the school bus painted. But I’m not going to get drawn into some petty political game with Mr. Crapo’s supporters,” Mauk said.
“I’ve spent the last week on the highways and in the towns of Idaho talking about the concerns of voters. I intend to continue on that course, whatever the color of my school bus.”
Mauk unveiled the bus last week for a statewide tour that he said was aimed at overcoming his huge financial disadvantage to Crapo, a three-term congressman trying to succeed fellow Republican Sen. Dirk Kempthorne.
