Churches Offer Bible Schools

Several North Side churches are offering vacation Bible schools in the coming weeks. With the school year almost upon us, Bible school season is ending soon.

The Calvary Chapel of Spokane, 511 W. Hastings Road, will offer classes from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Aug. 13. The free school, called “Growing in the Son,” is open to children age 3 through the sixth grade.

Classes will also be offered for parents. Discussion topics include “Chance of Design - Creation vs. Evolution,” “The Bible and Today’s Headlines” and “Is the Bible Reliable?” Child care for children age 2 and under will be available for adults attending classes.

Grace Baptist Church’s free vacation Bible school will focus on the life of Jesus, beginning with a lesson about his birth and ending with his resurrection.

Classes will run from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 17-21. All children in grades K-6 are invited to attend. Scheduled activities include crafts, music, snacks, stories and games.

Transportation is available. The registration deadline is Aug. 14. For more information, call the church office at 328-3190.

Fowler United Methodist Church, 3928 N. Howard, will host a “Veggie Town Values” vacation Bible school Aug. 24-29. Based on the popular “Veggie Tales” video series, the free classes will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. daily.

Classes are available for everyone age 4 through adult. Activities include crafts, Bible stories and music.

Lidgerwood celebration Saturday

Lidgerwood Evangelical Church, 228 E. Gordon, will host the second annual Lidgerwood Summer Celebration in cooperation with the Neva-Wood COPS Shop on Saturday. The free community event will run from 4 to 8 p.m.

Several community service organizations will have information booths and free give-aways. Activities include face painting, a climbing wall, a jumping castle and carnival games. A clown and some fire trucks will be on hand. Concerts will run throughout the day and food will be available from concession stands.

Prizes will be given away during the event, including a night’s stay at the Double Tree Inn, dinner for two at Cavanaughs Ripples restaurant, and tickets to Silverwood, Splashdown and Indians baseball games.

Singing Nuns perform Saturday

The Singing Nuns of Mount St. Michael’s Convent will host their annual courtyard concert at 6 p.m. Saturday. The outdoor concert will be preceded by tours of Mount St. Michael beginning at 4 p.m. Those attending are invited to bring a picnic to enjoy during the concert. Admission is $5 per person. Mount St. Michaels is located at 8500 N. St. Michael’s Road.
