Dollar Rises Against Yen, Mark

The dollar rose against the yen Thursday as traders stayed cautious ahead of the first official policy speech of Japan’s new prime minister.

“The mood is one of great skepticism still,” said Lisa Finstrom, senior currency futures analyst with Salomon Smith Barney Inc.

The dollar also rose against the German mark, but only as it chased the Dow Jones industrial average’s highs and lows Thursday. The Dow ended 30.90 points higher after sliding near the open.
