Camp Areas Reopened Following Bear Scare
Camping areas along a 6.8-mile stretch of trail have been reopened following a closure because of bears, Olympic National Park officials said.
The reopening of Canyon Camp and Marys Falls on the Elwha River Trail between Lillian Camp and Elkhorn was announced Thursday. Other areas along the trail remain closed to camping, as does the backcountry in the Sol Duc area.
The camps were closed July 9 after a black bear ate improperly stored human food, but bear sightings have been sparse since the closure, park superintendent David Morris said.
