Car Windows Broken During Man’S Arrest

From Staff

A Kamiah man wanted on three outstanding warrants broke two windows in a patrol car before deputies who arrested him this weekend could control him, according to a sheriff’s department report.

Deputies said Eric E. Mummert, 44, slammed his head against the rear passenger side window several times before it shattered while deputies waited for a tow truck to take his car.

Mummert then broke out the rear window several minutes later after freeing himself from leg restraints deputies used to try to subdue him, deputies said. He was eventually restrained on the ground and taken to jail late Friday in a transport van on several misdemeanor charges, including resisting arrest and malicious injury to property.

Other charges Mummert faces are driving without privileges and possessing a suspended driver’s license. He was being held Monday in the Kootenai County Jail on two fugitive warrants out of Washington and a misdemeanor battery warrant from Idaho’s Lewis County.

Deputies said they stopped Mummert for speeding on Government Way near the intersection of Honeysuckle Avenue. They asked Mummert, who allegedly smelled of alcohol, to perform field sobriety tests and arrested him when dispatchers said he was wanted.
