Man Robbed After Leaving Store

Two panhandlers robbed a man who flashed several $100 bills at a Spokane convenience store Wednesday, police said.

The man was robbed after he went into the Chevron station at Cataldo and Division about 1:30 a.m. to buy food. He was carrying five $100 bills in a small appointment book and used one to pay for the food, police said.

The 35-year-old victim told police that a couple was in the store when he made the purchase and they saw the money. They panhandled a few dollars from the man and followed him on foot onto the Division Street bridge, police said.

The couple stopped the man about halfway across. One hit him in the face and wrestled away the money, police said. They ran south, then headed west on the Centennial Trail.

Police are looking for the suspects. The man is described as black, 20 to 30 years old and about 5 feet 10 inches tall. The woman is described as white, in her 20s, short, with a heavy build.
