Fern Finishes A Stroke Back
John Robertson of Olympia overcame a five-stroke deficit on the final day of the AJGA Boise Junior Classic and wound up with a one-stroke victory.
Robertson carded a 4-under-par 67 on the final 18 holes to finish one stroke ahead of Spokane’s David Fern and two other teenage golfers at Warm Springs Golf Club. Fern finished with a 71.
Matt Kodama from Mead, leader for the first two rounds, tumbled to third place with a 74 for 209.
Brandon Smith of Veradale and Corey Prugh of Spokane were among three golfers tied at 212. Dan Potter of Coeur d’Alene finished at 216, one shot ahead of Spokane’s Mike Hastings and Ryan Camp and six others.
Basketball
In women’s over-30 basketball at the Nike World Master Games, Smile and Nod defeated Nor-Pac 85-59 in the gold-medal game on Friday.
Smile and Nod, featuring former Oregon and Oregon State players, went undefeated, including a one-point victory over Nor-Pac during pool play.
Nor-Pac’s roster included University of Idaho women’s coach Hilary Recknor and ex-University of Washington and Gonzaga Prep standout Lisa Oriard, a member of the all-time Pac-10 team.
