Team Washington Grabs Third Place
Reid Hatley of Spokane helped Washington finish third in the Eddie Hogan Cup Team junior golf tournament that wound up a two-day run Monday in Portland.
Hatley, an All-Greater Spokane League first-team selection, who will be a senior at Ferris, shot 73-77 for 150, second best on the Washington team and good for a top-6 overall individual finish. Team leader Derek Berg of Duvall shot 149 for fifth overall.
Washington had a team total of 452, 15 shots back of winner Northern California. Idaho was sixth at 470.
Corey Prugh of Spokane qualified at the IZZO Colorado Junior Qualifier conducted by the American Junior Golf Association in Westminster, Colo.
Prugh, a second-team All-GSL choice and a junior-to-be at Ferris, shot a 4-over-par 76 at Legacy Ridge Golf Course. The IZZO Colorado Junior Roundup begins Wednesday.
Auto racing
Rob Vest and Randy Lasswell swept both ends of their racing doubleheaders during the weekend at Stateline Speedway.
Vest won both Friday and Saturday’s mains in street stocks, capturing his 10th victory of the season. Lasswell did the same in hobby stocks for his seventh feature race win this year.
Othello’s Don Kudrna drove to his first win of the season in the visiting Columbia River Sprint Cars. Marc Lund of Newman Lake was third in the 30-lap main after setting fast time.
Mark Wakefield continued his dominance of the Spokane Raceway Park street stock class with his third straight and sixth main victory in his last eight outings. John McCroskey won his 11th race of the season in fever fours, while Chris Yochum broke into the winners’ circle for the first time this season. On the drag strip, R&R Racing of Chewelah won for the second time this year in super pro, while Eldon Hallock in pro eliminator and street eliminator driver Jason Metz each won for the first time in 1998.
At Monroe, Wash., Spokane’s Kevin Richards finished fifth in the Coors Light 200 NASCAR Winston West race at Evergreen Speedway, his sixth top-five finish in 11 races.
Pappy Pryor of Priest Lake finished 14th after starting 20th.
Richards moved into sixth place in series points and into a tie in the rookie-of-the-year standings.
Butch Gilliland won the race.
