Southern Oregon, battling for the South Division lead, scored five runs in the seventh inning Thursday night and held on to defeat Spokane 7-4 in Northwest League baseball.

Oscar Salazar and Matt Howe contributed two-run doubles to the big inning as the Timberjacks defeated the Indians, who were beginning an eight-game road trip.

Southern Oregon (34-29) kept pace with Salem-Keizer in the South Division. The Volcanoes knocked off South Division leader Boise 11-4, costing Spokane a chance to gain on the Hawks. Spokane trails Boise by one game.

Trailing 7-0, Spokane scored four runs in the eighth. Paul Phillips singled in two and Jeremy Dodson doubled in one. There were two men on when Brian Shackelford lined out to end the inning.
