Boundary Change Unlikely
Central Valley School District voters will decide on Sept. 15 whether to tax themselves $78 million to build two new high schools.
Between now and election day, the Valley Voice will publish answers to readers’ questions about the bond measure.
Question: What is the present number of students at Central Valley and University high schools? If the schools are rebuilt, are there plans to redraw the attendance boundaries to even out the numbers of students?
Answer: As of last spring, Central Valley had 1,350 students; U-Hi had 1,050 students - not counting the Bowdish ninthgraders who attended for the year.
School officials don’t currently plan to change the boundaries. Their hope is that the populations will even out between the two schools. Eventually, attendance boundaries may change.
Question: Will the new schools really look like the artists’ rendering?
Answer: Not necessarily. The artists’ drawing used by the school district is simply to give people an idea of what the schools might look like.
After the bond passes, the school board will hire an architectural firm that will propose a design that could differ significantly from the concept drawing. The two schools will be similar to one another, officials have said.
