Fall is coming, school is starting, and genealogy classes and seminars galore are being planned.

It’s time to mark your calendar for these events. Come and learn how to find those lost ancestors of yours.

I will teach advanced genealogy workshops through the Institute for Extended Learning and the Seniors Program.

The eight sessions at Shadle Park High School, 4327 N. Ash, begin Sept. 24, 6:30-8:30 p.m. An advanced course for those 55 and older will be Thursdays, 1-3 p.m., beginning Sept. 24, at Corbin Senior Activity Center, 827 W. Cleveland.

Ann Hemmert will teach several beginning genealogy classes:

Mondays, Sept. 14-Nov. 2, 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Saks Family Restaurant, 15606 E. Sprague; Tuesdays, Sept. 15-Nov. 3, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Shadle Park High School; Wednesdays, Sept. 16-Nov. 4, 9:30-11:30 a.m., Corbin Senior Activity Center, 827 W. Cleveland and 1-3 p.m., South Hill Senior Center, 2727 S. Mount Vernon.

Hemmert also will teach organizing genealogical materials: Nov. 9 and 16, 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Saks; Nov. 11 and 18, 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Corbin Senior Activity Center and 1-3 p.m. at South Hill Senior Center.

Don’t wait until the first night of class to register because without enough preregistrations, classes will be cancelled.

Eastern Washington Genealogical Society will resume its monthly meetings at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Spokane Public Library’s downtown auditorium. The group’s usual meeting date is the first Saturday of each month.

EWGS offers free beginners classes from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 12 at the downtown library and on each first Saturday of month.

The EWGS’ “Back to School” workshop will be from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 3 at Ferris High School.

Whitman County Genealogical Society in Pullman begins meetings at 7 p.m., Sept. 10. For more information, call Jean Innerarity at 334-9583 or Judy McMurray at 332-2386.

The West Plains Family History Center, at Melville and Hayford roads west of Spokane, will host a free beginner’s seminar Sept. 18 and 19. Exact times will be announced later. Contact Enoch Lybbert at 235-8851 for information.

The Northeast Washington Genealogical Society’s “Genealogy Jumpstart” begins at 8 a.m. Sept. 19 at Woody’s Grill in Colville, Wash. I’ll be the speaker for this all-day seminar, discussing “Do You Understand Family Search?”, “Jumping Into the Mainstream of Genealogy,” “Let’s Review the Census” and “Getting Around Those Stonewalls.”
