Loren ‘Bud’ Swan Tekoa, Wash.

Funeral Mass for Loren P. “Bud” Swan, 72, will be at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeSmet, Idaho. Burial will follow at DeSmet Mission Cemetery. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Swan, who was born in DeSmet, died Friday at Tekoa Care Center.

He served with the Navy during World War II on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga.

Mr. Swan played baseball for the Spokane Hawks in 1945 as an outfielder. He later pitched for the Lewiston Broncs and played on a team in Grand Forks, N.D.

In 1947 he married Bertha Garrick. He later married Beverly Larmie.

He worked for several years in lumber mills and later worked as a carpenter’s helper on several building construction jobs in Washington and Idaho. He was involved with the construction of Grand Coulee Dam and the Spokane Coliseum.

In 1993 he moved to Tekoa. In August 1997 he threw the first ball in a Spokane Indians game.

Mr. Swan was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Coeur d’Alene Tribe and Joseph P. Garry American Legion Post 5.

Survivors include a son, Loren Swan Jr. of Spokane; four daughters, Patrecia Gonzales and Yolanda Swan, both of Spokane, Joyce Swan of Plummer, Idaho, and Darla Swan of Inchelium, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Joy Garrick of Tensed, Idaho; three sisters, Lorraine Abrahamson of Spokane, Emma Hendrickx of Tensed and Edith Orr of Nespelem, Wash; 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Dorothy (Stahl) Harris Spokane

Private cremation will be held for Dorothy (Strahl) Harris, 86. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Harris, who was born in Owensboro, Ky., died Friday.

She graduated from Steele High School in Dayton, Ohio, in 1930.

She married James Harris and lived in Boise before moving to Spokane in 1938.

Mrs. Harris was a counselor and a member of the board of directors for the National Federated Music Clubs. She worked with the Greater Spokane Music Festival for several years.

Mrs. Harris was a volunteer for the United Crusades drive, Red Cross, March of Dimes, and much more.

She was a member of the auxiliary at St. Luke’s and Deaconess hospitals.

Mrs. Harris was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was also active with the Barton School.

Her husband died in 1998.

Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Sisson of Cataldo, Idaho; a grandson and a great-granddaughter.

Mary (Lautenschlager) Reich Colfax, Wash.

Funeral service for Mary (Lautenschlager) Reich, 88, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Colfax. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Reich, who was born in Gordon, Wis., died Friday.

In 1915 her family moved to the Endicott, Wash., area, then to Monse, Wash., before returning to the Endicott area in 1925.

In 1929 she married Mabry Hatley. He died in 1950.

In 1951 she married Victor Reich. He died in 1985.

She sold Avon products for several years and in 1972 moved to Colfax from Endicott.

Mrs. Reich was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Colfax and Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott.

Survivors include two sons, Virgil and Clyde Hatley, both of Colfax; two brothers, George Lautenschlager of Terrabella, Calif., and Adam Lautenschlager of Simi City, Calif.; four grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, seven stepgreat-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Rae Hudlow Spokane

Memorial service for Rae L. Hudlow, 72, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

A 60-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Hudlow died Saturday.

She was born in Kettle Falls, Wash.

She was a homemaker and worked on the family farm for several years.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Calvin; two sons, James and Roger Hudlow; and a sister, Katherine Haugen.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission or Anna Ogden Hall.

Dorothy (Green) Kemp Bothell, Wash.

Vigil service for Dorothy G. (Green) Kemp, 95, will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Kemp, who was born in Chelan, Wash., died Nov. 18.

In 1915 she moved to Spokane and in 1921 graduated from Lewis and Clark High School. She earned a teaching certificate from Cheney Normal School.

In 1955 Mrs. Kemp graduated from Eastern Washington State College with a bachelor’s degree in education.

She married Alfred Kemp in 1938.

Mrs. Kemp taught in various schools throughout Washington and Idaho and retired in 1968.

Mrs. Kemp recently moved to Bothell.

She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and St. Margaret’s Guild and Altar Society.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Alfred Kemp Jr. of Idaho Falls; a daughter, Jeanne Vanhook of Bothell, Wash.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

J.C. Boyer Liberty Lake

Funeral Mass for J.C. Boyer, 65, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 4521 N. Arden. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Boyer, a 46-year Spokane resident, died Monday.

Born in Iowa, La., he served with the Air National Guard for 20 years before retiring in 1986. He then worked for Child Protective Services.

He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Knights of Columbus, Washington Air National Guard and St. Joseph Parish.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne; four sons, John Boyer of Coeur d’Alene, Jeff Boyer of Spokane, Greg Boyer of Auburn, Wash., and Mark Boyer of Salt Lake City; two daughters, Rose Johnson and Chris Nelson, both of Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers, Willard and Henry Boyer, both of New Iberia, La.; 13 grandchildren and two stepgranddaughters.

Forrest Cronk Worley, Idaho

Committal service for Forrest C. Cronk, 89, will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Worley Community Church.

Mr. Cronk, who was born in Husum, Wash., died Saturday. He was a wheat farmer in Worley for most of his life and was a charter member of the Worley Community Church.

His first wife, Jenny, died in 1945.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Elva; three sons, Mike Cronk of Otis Orchards, Ed Gay of Post Falls and Ray Gay of Hayden, Idaho; three daughters, Pat Primmer of Tekoa, Wash., and Gerry Drechsel and Midge Braman, both of Worley; a sister, Carol Canaday of Seattle; 18 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren.

Norman Best Spokane

Funeral for Norman O. Best, 73, was Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 808 E. Sitka. Burial was at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Best, who was born in Kalispell, Mont., died Wednesday.

He worked in sawmills for many years before moving to Spokane in 1981.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen; a stepson, Phil Thomas; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Deardorf; three brothers, Mike, Hugh and Dick Best; and a sister, Mary Jane.

Doris McCann Spokane

Funeral service for Doris McCann, 88, will be at 3 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Committal service and burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fairmount Memorial Park.

A lifetime Spokane resident and a homemaker, Mrs. McCann, died Thursday.

Her husband, Herman, died in 1971.

Survivors include a brother, Paul Negovan, and a sister, Melia Simpson, both of Spokane.

Cory Broeckel Spokane

Funeral for Cory Dean Broeckel, 32, will be at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Colfax, Wash. Burial will follow at the Dusty (Wash.) Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Broeckel, who was born in Colfax, Wash., died Tuesday.

In 1982 he married Julie Kates.

He worked on the family farm for many years until moving to Spokane in 1995. He later worked in the construction business.

In 1995 he married Lynette Keeling.

Survivors include his wife; two children, Daniel and Soni, both of Dusty; a stepson, Sean Stith of Spokane; his mother Darlene Broeckel of LaCrosse, Wash.; two brothers, Ron and Randy Broeckel, and a sister, Conie Broeckel, all of Lacrosse; and a special friend, Mary Baxter of Spokane.

Betty Prevost Spokane

Visitation for Betty J. Prevost, 73, will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

A 31-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Prevost, died Wednesday. She was born in Seattle.

She worked as a waitress at The Bon Marche soda fountain for many years. In 1946 she married Jim Prevost and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Prevost later worked in photography in Yakima.

Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Beverly Van Wey of Spokane, Maurene Humphrey of Deer Park, Barbara Daubel of Elk and Kathy Stouffer of Seaside, Calif.; seven grandchildren, a stepgrandson and a great-granddaughter.

David Clifton Spokane

Visitation for David D. Clifton, 70, will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 6363 N. Lidgerwood.

A 50-year Spokane resident, Mr. Clifton died Saturday.

Born in Warrensburg, Mo., he was a self-employed auto mechanic for several years.

Mr. Clifton was a member of Moose Lodge 161 and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra; two sons, David and Frank; three daughters, Jenny, Nita and Libby; two stepsons, Chuck and Jim; a stepdaughter, Deborah; six brothers, a sister, 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Elsie Delzer Odessa, Wash.

Funeral service for Elsie H. Delzer, 90, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Heritage Church in Odessa. Burial will follow at the Odessa Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Odessa is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Delzer, who was born on the family farm near Odessa, died Saturday.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Heritage Church and the Odessa Grange.

Her husband, Richard, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Harvey Delzer of Odessa and Walter Hamilton of Tacoma; two daughters, Marianne Schelin of Coeur d’Alene and Devonna Bonny of Elgin, Ore.; a brother Emil Ramm of Walla Walla; 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons.

Blanche Bock Spokane

Vigil service for Blanche E. Bock, 75, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 8 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Ms. Bock, who was born in Sidney, Mont., died Tuesday.

She graduated from Lewiston Business College and served with the Women’s Marine Corps during World War II.

In 1950 she moved to Spokane.

Ms. Bock retired from the auditing department at Cenex Corp.

Survivors include her sister, Rose Roberts of Kalispell, Mont.

Dorothy Humes Spokane

Funeral service for Dorothy I. Humes, 90, will be at 11 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Humes, who was born in Neodesha, Kan., died Saturday.

Mrs. Humes was a homemaker and lived on a farm in Chattaroy for 45 years before moving to Spokane in 1993.

She was a member of Chattaroy Community Church.

Survivors include her husband, Edwin; a daughter, Dorene Reynolds of Spokane; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Auslaug Sather Spokane

Funeral service for Auslaug Sather, 80, will be at 11 a.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 48-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Sather, died Friday. She was born in Dombaas, Norway.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church for several years.

He husband, Arnt, died in 1996.

Survivors include three sons, Nils and Arnold Sather, both of Spokane, and Eric Sather of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Astrid Peltier of Spokane; and five grandchildren.

Mildred Polikowsky Spokane

Graveside service for Mildred Polikowsky, 93, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 17-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Polikowsky, died Thursday.

Born in Akeley, Minn., she was a homemaker and a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church for many years.

Her husband, Alton, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Bernie Polikowsky of Spokane and Dale Polikowsky of Houston; and three grandchildren.
