Man Charged With Drive-By Shooting

From Staff Reports

A traffic dispute early Wednesday led to a man firing a gun at another driver, sheriff’s deputies said.

Arch J. Demaris, 20, was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a felony charge of drive-by shooting.

The shooting happened about 1 a.m. on Saltese Road near Liberty Lake after Demaris confronted a driver, deputies said. No vehicles were hit and no one was injured.

Deputies learned about the shooting after a motorist told Deputy Jim Reed that a man in a red pickup shot at him.

The pickup was parked on the shoulder of the road near Appleway and Barker, in plain view of the officers and the victim, deputies said.

The pickup pulled away and Reed drove after it. It stopped in the 18000 block of Appleway. Reed said he saw one of the two occupants toss a shiny, silver item out of the window.

Deputies said they found a loaded stainless steel Ruger .22-caliber pistol when they searched the area.
