Daniel ‘Dan’ Carter Garfield Bay, Idaho
Service for Daniel M. “Dan” Carter, 87, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Burial with military honors will take place at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.
Mr. Carter, who was born in Mansfield, Wash., died Monday.
He lived in Gooding, Idaho, and taught school there while serving with the Army Reserve. He served with the Army during World War II in North Africa, Italy, England and France, including during the invasion of Normandy.
Mr. Carter earned his wings as a paratrooper in 1951 and received numerous military decorations, including the Bronze Star, before retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1964.
He moved to Sandpoint in 1965 and worked in the real estate business, establishing Carter Realty and Appraisal in 1967 and retiring in 1980. He lived in the Garfield Bay area on Lake Pend Oreille.
Mr. Carter was a member of the Episcopal Church, served as past president of the Bonner/Boundary Board of Realtors and was state director for the Idaho Real Estate Commission.
He was also a member of the Fort Benning (Ga.) Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Harriet; four children, Jane Carter Bosserman of Oklahoma, Daniel Carter Jr. of Sandpoint, and Harold “Hal” Carter and Paige Carter, both of Sagle, Idaho; and eight grandchildren.
Albert Hemstrom Post Falls
Funeral for Albert A. Hemstrom, 87, will be at 2 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mr. Hemstrom, who was born in Gem, Kan., died Sunday.
He served with the Coast Guard during World War II and later worked as an auto mechanic for Tom Price Chrysler for many years.
Mr. Hemstrom retired in 1973 and moved to Hillsboro, Ore., where he lived for 12 years before moving to Post Falls.
He was an avid black powder musket shooter and belonged to gun clubs in Coeur d’Alene and Sherwood, Ore.
Mr. Hemstrom was also a 50-year member of Spokane Eagles Lodge No. 2.
His wife of 49 years, Grace, died in 1985.
Survivors include his companion, Edith Goude of Post Falls; a daughter, Linda Burton of Portland; a sister, Tessa Anderson of Bard, Calif.; and a granddaughter.

Linda Mott Sandpoint
Service for Linda Gertrude Mott, 90, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Newport Cemetery in Newport, Wash.
Mrs. Mott, who was born in Oklahoma, died Thursday.
She grew up in Kansas and Oklahoma and moved to Newport in 1929.
In 1944 Mrs. Mott moved to Sandpoint and worked as a retail sales clerk for J.C. Penney in Newport and Sandpoint.
She hosted naval families in her home during World War II.
Mrs. Mott was a member of the Sandpoint First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald.
Survivors include three children, Inez Petersen of California, Kenneth Mott of Sandpoint and Stanley Mott of Arizona.
Lt. Col. Arthur Degenhardt Rathdrum, Idaho
Service for Lt. Col. Arthur A. Degenhardt, 76, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.
Mr. Degenhardt, who was born in New Jersey, died Monday.
He had served with the Air Force as a pilot in World War II and the Korean War before retiring after 26 years and moving to the Spokane area.
Mr. Degenhardt also had a home in Rathdrum and worked for the Post Falls Boise Cascade Corp. before retiring as the Northwest district sales manager.
He was active in senior citizen organizations and was a member of the Daedalians, a retired officer pilots’ association, and was past commander of the Hayden Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Degenhardt was also past president of the Coeur d’Alene Community Theater and was a member of the Retired Officers Association.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, H. Audrey; three sons, Kim Degenhardt of Hayden, Idaho, Dane Degenhardt of Tokyo and Craig Degenhardt of Albuquerque, N.M.; three daughters, Aldina Neudeck of Athol, Idaho, Nikkiel Bjornson of Missoula and Lennelle Mahs of Tokyo; two brothers, William and Walter Degenhardt, both of New Jersey; and 10 grandchildren.
Wilbur Janson Latah
Funeral for Wilbur C. Janson, 74, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Latah Country Bible Church. Burial will be at the Latah Evergreen Cemetery. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Janson, who was a lifetime Latah resident, died Sunday.
He graduated from Latah High School in 1942 and worked as a wheat farmer all his life.
In 1957 he married Betty Lowe.
Mr. Janson was a member of the Latah Country Bible Church, member and past master of Waverly Masonic Lodge 231, and was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Washington Association of Wheat Growers, Washington and Idaho Dry Pea and Lentil Association and the Washington Fire Commissioners Association. He was also a board member for the Evergreen Cemetery and a volunteer fireman and past commissioner for Fire District 12.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Janson of Chehalis, Wash., and Cary Janson of Latah; a daughter, Linda McClure of Kent, Wash.; two sisters, Dorothy Ruhl of Spokane and Ruth Haas of St. Maries; a brother, James Janson of Spokane; and six grandchildren.

Stephanie O’Brien Priest River, Idaho
No service will be held for Stephanie Irene O’Brien. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. O’Brien, who was born in Ione, Wash., died Monday. She was 57.
She graduated from high school and served with the Air Force.
Mrs. O’Brien had been a resident of Post Falls from 1967 until moving to Priest River three years ago.
Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Dennis; a daughter, Teri O’Brien of Portland; and her father, E.L. Rogich of Las Vegas.
