Concerts

A community choir and orchestra will perform Handel’s “Messiah” during a concert at 4 p.m Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar. The annual performance is open to anyone who wants to sing along, as well as listeners. Rehearsals are 9 a.m. to noon today, and 2:15 p.m. Sunday. The concert is free. (747-1058)

Whitworth College will present “This Christmastide” during several concerts next weekend at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar. Singing will be the Whitworth Choir, Chamber Singers and Women’s Choir with music from a brass ensemble, handbell choir and organ.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday, and 2 and 8 p.m. next Saturday. A prelude will begin 20 minutes before each concert.

Tickets are $10, available through G&B Select-A-Seat. Seating is limited. (325-SEAT)

The Singing Nuns will perform “Christmas Evermore” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14 and 15 at The Met.

The Singing Nuns are an everchanging group of sisters from St. Michael’s Convent in Spokane. The sisters have performed around the country since 1979 as a way to support their convent and school.

Tickets - $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors - are available through G&B Select-A-Seat. (325-SEAT)

Seminars

Alvin Griend, director of Houses of Prayer Everywhere, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., will be the featured speaker at a Houses of Prayer seminar from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar. The seminar will include tips on starting a House of Prayer, which are usually in private homes.

For reservations call Dan or Robby Grether at 468-4855. Cost: $25 per person, or $30 per couple. Group rates are available.

Guest speakers

Don Argue, president of Northwest College in Kirkland, Wash., will speak at the 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. services Sunday at Spokane Valley Assembly of God Church, 15618 E. Broadway.

Argue is a past president of the National Association of Evangelicals in Wheaton, Ill.
