Obituaries

Walter Schierman Endicott, Wash.

Memorial service for Walter Henry Schierman, 76, will be at 11 a.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Schierman, who was born in Endicott, died Thursday.

He graduated from Endicott High School in 1941 and attended Washington State University before enlisting in the Army during World War II.

In 1946 he married Wilma Morasch. He worked as a partsman for the McGregor Co. for 29 years, retiring in 1986.

Mr. Schierman was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Colfax and Moscow, Idaho, Elks Lodges.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Anna Stoner of Endicott; two brothers, Dan and Sam Schierman, both of Portland, and Robert Schierman of Torrance, Calif.; two sisters, Helen Eichelberg and Edna Schierman, both of Portland; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Endicott Cemetery, Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott or to St. John-Endicott Co-op Schools Foundation.

Evelyn Clark Spokane

Funeral Mass for Evelyn G. Clark, 80, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Clark, who died Thursday, was born in Marion, N.D.

She graduated from Williston (N.D.) High School and in 1937 married Francis Clark.

During World War II she worked in the British Embassy in New York City. After the war she and her husband returned to Williston.

Mrs. Clark was a resident of Spokane for the past 40 years and a member of St. Thomas More Parish.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Jeannie Clark of Newport, Wash.; three sons, Bill and Steve Clark, both of Spokane and Fred Clark of Chattaroy; a sister, Helen Simmons; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Shirley Pra Mead

Memorial service for Shirley J. Pra, 61, will be at 11 a.m. today in the Rock Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pra, who died Tuesday, was born in Escanaba, Mich.

She was a homemaker and a former resident of Southern California.

Mrs. Pra moved to Spokane 16 years ago.

Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Frank; three daughters, Lisa, Rhonda and Tina Pra, all of Spokane; a brother, William Straub of Marysville, Calif.; three sisters, Lorraine Sullivan of Spokane, Evelyn Wallo of Rosemead, Calif., and Theresa Pare of Cherry Valley, Calif.; and one grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Family Hospital Occupational Therapy Department.

John Gerdes Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for John F. Gerdes, 82, will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Service will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. Inurnment will be held in Kennewick.

Mr. Gerdes, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Friday.

He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary High School in Coeur d’Alene and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1936. He moved to the Tri-Cities in 1947.

He was a service station operator for Union Oil and moved to Post Falls in 1995.

Mr. Gerdes returned to Coeur d’Alene in 1998.

He was a member of the Kennewick Elks Lodge and St. Thomas Catholic Church.

His wife, Harriet, died in 1990.

Survivors include two sisters, AnnMarie Neuman of Coeur d’Alene and Dorothy Hill of Phoenix, Ariz.

Harold Brighton Spokane

No service will be held for Harold R. Brighton, 70, at his request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Brighton died Thursday.

He began working as a mechanic for Western Fruit Railroad in 1955, retiring in 1980.

Mr. Brighton was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 2.

Survivors include his wife, Clara; a brother, Jasper Brighton of Wenatchee; and a sister, Donna Wilson of California.

Gladys Womble North Highlands, Calif.

Service for Gladys Emily Womble, 81, was Friday at Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks, Calif.

Mrs. Womble, a former Spokane resident, died Nov. 29. She was born in Roundup, Mont.

In 1938 she married Harry Womble and in 1952 they moved to Spokane from Montana.

She was a homemaker and had lived in North Highlands since 1994.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Tim and Dale Womble, both of Texas; four daughters, Sharon Sterling of Washington state, Linda McRae of Citrus Heights, Calif., Gloria Good of California and Eunice Valentine of San Rafael, Calif.; two brothers, Marvin and Vern Essman, both of Montana; two sisters, Elaine Sheets of Colorado and Theo Kent of Arkansas; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Eugene Funke Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Eugene H. Funke, 83, will be held at a later date. Mr. Funke, who was born in Ferdinand, Idaho, died Nov. 26.

He grew up near Ferdinand and lived in Kamiah, Idaho, before moving to the Benewah Valley near St. Maries in 1953.

Mr. Funke was a farmer and cattle rancher, and owned the Mobil Service Station in St. Maries. He later operated a tire business before selling to Les Schwab Tire Co.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1971 and worked for Roth Brothers Logging until retiring in 1982.

Mr. Funke was a member of the Good Sams Club and the Coeur d’Alene Senior Citizens.

He spent winters in Arizona.

Survivors include his wife, Cleo; three sons, Bob Funke of Coeur d’Alene, Maurice Funke of California and Dennis Funke of Hayden Lake, Idaho; two daughters, Debi Funke of Wenatchee and Marcelle Moe of St. Maries; three sisters, Gertrude Wimer of Cottonwood, Idaho, Mildred Schmidt of Asotin, Wash., and Bernice Amans of Oregon; three brothers, Bernard Funke of Clarkston, Wash., Raymond Funke of California and Fred Funke of Deary, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
