Exner Makes All-District Volleyball Team

Eastern Washington senior Kim Exner has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-District 8 team for the second consecutive year.

Exner, a senior middle blocker from Vernon, British Columbia, is the Big Sky Conference’s all-time kills leader with 1,860, and she led the Eagles to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1989. The Eagles lost to Notre Dame in the first round and finished the season at 24-6. The award makes Exner eligible for All-America consideration.

Exner also was named Big Sky Conference player of the year after being named co-MVP last season.

Others named to the District 8 team were Kerri Walsh (third time) and Jennifer Detmer of Stanford; Laura Echolds of Santa Clara; Jennifer Kessy (second time), Jasmina Marinkovic (third time) and Janice Mounts of USC; Katie Lindquist and Petia Yanchulova of San Diego; UCLA’s Elisabeth Bachman and Kristee Porter; and Sarah McFarland of Loyola Marymount.

UCLA’s Andy Banachowski, the all-time Division I women’s volleyball leader in victories, was named District 8 coach of the year. UCLA (16-12) lost to UC Santa Barbara in the second round of the NCAAs.
