Obituaries

Barbara Kraus Moscow, Idaho

Memorial service for Barbara Jean Kraus, 72, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Moscow. Private burial will precede the service at Moscow Cemetery.

Mrs. Kraus, who was born in Wenatchee, died Tuesday.

She grew up and graduated from high school in Idaho Falls and graduated from Colorado Women’s College in Denver with an associate bachelor of science degree.

Mrs. Kraus obtained a master’s degree from Washington State College in 1948 and then worked at the University of Hawaii in the nutrition department of the Agricultural Experiment Station until returning to Idaho in 1955.

She worked as a home agent with the Idaho Extension Service and transferred to the state office in Moscow as an extension nutritionist in 1957.

Mrs. Kraus had served as president of the University of Idaho Faculty Women’s Club, and was involved with Chapter O, P.E.O., Moscow Home Economists, Moscow Women Elks Golf Association and the Idaho Roadrunners.

She spent part of the winters in California since 1972 and was a member of the Moscow Presbyterian Church, serving as deacon and Elder and was active in the women’s association.

Mrs. Kraus was also a charter member of the Handbell Choir and served as director for many years.

Her husband of 37 years, James Kraus, died earlier this year.

Survivors include a stepson, James Kraus of Post Falls.

Chaz Eide St. Maries

Graveside service for Chaz J. Eide, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Chaz, born Oct. 31, died Thursday from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

Survivors include his parents, Chelsea Eide and Gary Hanlan; his grandparents, Fred Eide Jr. of St. Maries, Cyndi Hurlbert of Kalispel, Mont., and Phyllis Dodge and Carlis Hanlan, both of St. Maries; and his great-grandparents, Fred and Joyce Eide of Georgia.

Logan Newell Coeur d’Alene

Service for Logan Michael Newell, 10 days old, will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Shoshone Memorial Gardens in Kingston.

Born in Spokane on Nov. 30, Logan died Wednesday.

Survivors include his parents, Mike and Merriah Newell; a sister, Morgan at home; grandparents, Jesse Newell of Post Falls, and Tim and Sheri Smith of Twin Lakes, Idaho; and great-grandparents, Harold and Betty Atkinson of Post Falls.

Madeline (Lennon) Morrison Tekoa, Wash.

Funeral for Madeline (Lennon) Morrison, 90, is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Tekoa United Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Farmington, Wash. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Morrison, who was born in Egypt, Wash., died Friday.

She graduated from Farmington High School in 1926 and attended Cheney Normal School, where she received her elementary school teaching certificate in 1930.

Mrs. Morrison returned to the family home south of Tekoa and taught at Andrew Springs country school for several years.

In 1937 she married W. Raymond Morrison and they moved to Potlatch, Idaho, where they farmed for 15 years.

She also worked as a substitute teacher at the Potlatch School for several years and served as a member of the Potlatch School Board.

Mrs. Morrison was a volunteer 4-H leader in Benewah County Idaho for many years. She started the Liberty Butte Hustlers 4-H Club in Tensed, Idaho, in 1959, and continued to work with that club until 1994.

She received the Washington Water Power Outstanding Leadership Award for Benewah County in 1962, and in 1984 she received the Idaho State Distinguished Service Award as a 4-H leader. Mrs. Morrison received her 40-year certificate as a 4-H leader in 1993.

She was a 70-year member of Hope Chapter 29 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Oakesdale, Wash., and a member of the Tekoa Study Club, Tensed Grange and the Methodist Church.

Her husband died last October.

She is survived by a son, Richard Morrison of Farmington.

Thelma Lockness Fairfield

No service will be held for Thelma P. Lockness, 99, at her request. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 26-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Lockness died Wednesday.

Born in Watertown, S.D., she taught school in Sequim, Wash., for three years and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Alfred, died in 1959.

Survivors include two daughters, Harriette Hartley and Betty Durant, both of Spokane; a son, Robert Lockness of Orland, Calif.; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Linda Burge Spokane

Memorial service for Linda A. Burge, 56, is planned for 1 p.m. Monday at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Burge, who was born in Los Angeles, died Wednesday.

She was a 30-year Spokane resident and worked as a nurse’s aide.

Survivors include a son, Len Burge III of Seattle; a daughter, Stacy White of Spokane; her mother, Louise Shetley of Downey, Calif.; a brother, Richard Hingley of Stockton, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Sheila Jennings Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Sheila F. Jennings, 63, will be at 11 a.m. held Monday at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Jennings, who was born in Helena, died Thursday.

She graduated from Helena High School and later settled in Billings, Mont. She co-owned Pat’s Flooring from 1967 until 1976.

Mrs. Jennings moved to Coeur d’Alene and in 1977 bought the Corner Pocket Bar where she worked as a cook.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Pat; a son, P.J. Jennings of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Julie Cisney of Post Falls; four brothers, Dick Davis of Texas, Russ Davis of Montana, Bob Davis of Allyn, Wash., and Earl Davis of Spokane; a sister, Shirley Davis of Billings; and three grandchildren.

Alice (Lindbloom) Oliver Metaline Falls, Wash.

Funeral for Alice Mable (Lindbloom) Oliver, 92, will be at 11 a.m. today at Metaline Falls Assembly of God Church. Graveside service will follow at the Metaline Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Oliver, who was born in Midale, Saskatchewan, died Monday.

She moved to Metaline Falls from Spokane in the mid-1940s and married Franklin Oliver.

Mrs. Oliver worked as a cook at the Washington Hotel in Metaline Falls, and as a beautician. She also helped out on the family ranch, operated a small dairy farm and sold milk out of her home.

Her husband died in 1973.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth Oliver of Ferndale, Wash.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Rosella (Peters) Morrill Spokane

Funeral for Rosella “Rose” (Peters) Morrill, 74, will be at 11 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Morrill, who was born in Eureka, Mont., died Tuesday.

She worked as a nurse for several years and was a resident of Spokane for the past 50 years.

Survivors include her husband, Walter; two daughters, Sandra Sheldon and Carol Hooper, both of Spokane; a son, Jerry Peters of Spokane; a brother, Russell Anderson of Kalispell, Mont.; a sister, Bernice Hudkins of Spokane; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission.

Juanita Nolte Post Falls

Visitation for Juanita Belle Nolte, 82, will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls.

Born in Wenatchee, Mrs. Nolte died Thursday.

She lived in Spokane for 20 years before moving to Post Falls 20 years ago.

Mrs. Nolte worked as a beauty operator for 25 years and then at General Instruments in the stock room until retiring in 1978.

She was active in social organizations in Spokane and Post Falls. Her husband, Fred, died in 1992.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Roberts of Philadelphia and Loretta Griffin of Greenacres; a sister, Charlotte Simon of Wenatchee; one granddaughter, Johnna; and three great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Mariah and Lacey.

Ruth Peterson Spokane

Memorial service for Ruth H. Peterson, 87, will be at 2 p.m. today at Sunset Mausoleum Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Peterson died Wednesday.

She worked as a secretary for an oil company.

Mrs. Peterson was a longtime member and dancer with Daughters of the Nile El Karnak Temple No. 6.

Her husband of 26 years, H.C. Peterson, died in 1973.

She is survived by a stepdaughter, Marilyn Marier of Arlington Heights, Ill.

Margaret ‘Irene’ Jones Poulsbo, Wash.

Funeral Mass for Margaret “Irene” Jones, 79, was Dec. 2 at St. Olaf’s Catholic Church in Poulsbo. Mrs. Jones, who was born in Spokane, died Nov. 30.

She attended Lewis and Clark High School and was a homemaker and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.

Mrs. Jones moved to the Seattle area in 1972, and had most recently moved to Poulsbo.

Survivors include four sons, Kim Laird of Spokane, Fred Roberg of West Seattle, Dan Roberg of Salem, Ore., and Scott Laird of Bellingham; two daughters, Pat Smolich of Seattle and Jill McGowan of Poulsbo; a brother, Albert Diehl of Spokane; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
