Dollar Falls Against Yen

The dollar was mixed against major currencies Monday in light trading, falling against the Japanese yen as U.S. stocks continued to slide, but rising vs. the German mark.

The U.S. currency declined against the yen as the Dow Jones industrial average fell 126.16 points Monday to close at 8,695.60.

The dollar gained against the mark, however, as traders generally moved out of currencies that will participate in the common European currency that will launch in January, said Paul Spirgel, senior dealer at Royal Bank of Scotland.
