Jeff and Jason Rupp combined for 37 points Tuesday and Coeur d’Alene made 22 of 37 shots from the floor in a 56-42 Border League win over Cheney, whose coach, Denny Humphrey, was aiming for his 500th win.
CdA also hit 8 of 9 free throws. Jeff Rupp made three 3-pointers and was 4 of 5 from the line.
Jason Rupp made four free throws in the fourth as Cheney attempted to rally.
Cheney also came within one point in the third quarter, but the Vikings responded with a 9-0 run for a 42-32 lead.
The Blackhawks missed 8 of 10 field-goal attempts in the second quarter. They finished 18 of 53.
Cheney suited up just eight players.
“They’re (Blackhawks) really athletic,” said Jeff Rupp, whose quick hands earned four steals. “We weren’t going to press against a more athletic team. We had to concentrate on the perimeter.”
