CANDLELIGHT CHRISTMAS CONCERT

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist will be bursting with song Sunday as the Cathedral and the Arts Association presents two performances of its annual Candlelight Christmas Concert at 3 and 7 p.m.

The concerts will feature the Clarion Brass Choir, brass musicians from the Spokane Symphony, singers from the Spokane Area Children’s Chorus, soprano Andrea Frey of Spokane Opera, pianist Linda Siverts of the Spokane Symphony and organist Charles Bradley of Central United Methodist Church.

Holiday music on the program includes traditional carols from Germany and England and selections from Bach and Mozart. Most selections have been rearranged by William Berry to be performed by brass and organ and to include singers. Berry plays trumpet with the Spokane Symphony.

Tickets for the popular concert are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $6 for children under 12. They may be purchased at G&B Select-A-Seat locations or by calling 325-SEAT.

The cathedral is at 127 E. 12th.

SPOKANE AREA CHILDREN’S CHORUS

The Spokane Area Children’s Chorus will present a holiday concert called “A Christmas Portrait” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday at Westminster Congregational Church, 411 S. Washington.

The concert will feature all five choirs of the chorus as well as a duet piano performance of “Slavator Mundi” by Spokane Symphony pianist Linda Siverts and chorus accompanist Stefanie Kowalski.

The young singers will perform an original composition titled “Bethlehem Pastorale” by Spokane musician Scarlett Hepworth; “Bring a Torch,” a French carol; “Finale” from Engelbert Humperdink’s opera, “Hansel and Gretel”; and “Silent Night” in German.

Reserved seats are $7 for adults and $5 for children. General seating is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling the chorus office at 624-7992.
