Logging To Begin, Using Helicopters

Helicopter logging is scheduled to begin Friday in the Clark Fork and East Hope area, the Sandpoint Ranger District announced.

Helicopters will be used in three different logging operations: the Antelope timber sale east of Clark Fork, the Kirby timber sale near East Hope and the Middle Mountain timber sale northeast of Clark Fork.

Helicopters will start Friday on the Antelope sale and fly every day for one or two weeks, depending on weather conditions.

Following that job, the helicopters will move to the Kirby sale and fly seven days a week until March 15, weather permitting.

Starting Dec. 21, helicopters will begin on the Middle Mountain sale and fly six days a week for one to two months. Initially, those helicopters will fly across Mosquito Creek road to a landing site near the University of Idaho Field Campus. Flaggers will stop traffic on the road for safety when the helicopters fly overhead. Later, logs will be flown to a landing site near Lightning Creek.
