Cal Poly Schools Eastern Mustangs Put It In High Gear, Routing Turnover-Prone Eagles Mustangs 106 Eagles 75

As the second-best scoring team in NCAA Division I, Cal Poly has feasted on opponents turnovers and missed shots this season.

Eastern Washington University gave the Mustangs a plateful in a 106-75 loss Thursday at Mott Gymnasium in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Eastern was nearly doubled-up in the first half as the Mustangs led 55-28 at halftime. The Eagles committed 13 turnovers and shot 32 percent in the first half.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think this could happen to our team in the final weeks of December,” EWU coach Steve Aggers said. “We’ve made such great progress. We went to Purdue last week and played super hard, and we’ve had good practices.”

Deon Williams led Eastern (2-6) with 19 points and Tony McGee added 14. Shannon Taylor, EWU’s leading scorer, was held to four points, all in the first half.

Chris Bjorklund scored 31, Jeremiah Mayes 24 and Mike Wozniak 21 for Cal Poly (5-2).
