Alpine skiing/snowboarding

Mount Spokane will host its annual Homecoming Day Saturday. Activities include demos, mountain tours, discounts on tune-ups, and free skiing for skiers who bring an old Mount Spokane Pass, any year, to the ticket window.

Lookout Pass is offering a free ski school this weekend to give kids who have never skied a head start. The lessons last 2 hours and will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. For more information, telephone Lookout Pass at (208) 744-1301.

49 Degrees North will kick off its holiday operations with night skiing tonight from 3:30 to 9 p.m. For information on upcoming holiday events, telephone (509) 458-9208.

Nordic skiing

Because of the Wild Moose Cup races this weekend at Mount Spokane, many trails will be closed to the public between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m.-11 a.m. on Sunday.

The complete Rendez-Vous area in Methow Valley is open for skiers this weekend and was last groomed on Dec. 13.

Three-quarters of the Sun Mountain area, also groomed, is open for skiing.

Snowmobiling

Old Mission State Park in Shoshone County has many trails available for snowmobiling, including the Glidden Lakes ride, the St. Joe River area, and the Bear Skull Sister Creek ride. Groomers are advising snowmobilers not to venture into the Mullan Fish Hatchery area because of fairly rough conditions.
