Shopping Spree
President Clinton shares a laugh with Peace Corps store employee Scott Hummer, who models a Ngompa opera mask from Nepal, as the president did some last-minute Christmas shopping at the store in downtown Washington on Wednesday. The store sells merchandise from various countries around the world and uses the proceeds to support Peace Corps volunteers. Clinton spent 20 minutes examining bracelets, masks, baskets and pottery from places such as Guatemala and the Philippines. The president did not purchase the Nepalese mask, which is used to “purify” the stage, but he did buy another mask and some painted pottery, paying with a credit card.
