Dollar Lower In Light Trading
The dollar fell against most major currencies Monday. Traders blamed a lack of liquidity caused by the annual year-end lull.
“Once again, the overriding theme for today is low liquidity,” said Robert Katz, a foreign exchange dealer at MTB Bank in New York. “It doesn’t take a whole lot of money to move the market today.”
The dollar gained some strength earlier in the day following news that U.S. tensions with Iraq had heated up. But the dollar failed to hold on to the gains.
There was no New York trading Friday because of the Christmas holiday.
