Clearwater River Snowpack At 80%
Federal snow surveyors are crediting a January that was wetter than normal for boosting the Clearwater River’s snowpack.
Field measurements of snow courses throughout the Clearwater basin showed the snowpack weighed in at 80 percent of average Friday.
Lewiston weather records for January showed the month as both warmer and wetter than average. The Clearwater measurements showed an increase from last month, when the basin ranked as the wettest in the state with a snowpack of 74 percent of normal, Eby said.
A wet January brought more snow to the southern part of Idaho, making the Bear River drainage southeast of Pocatello the wettest in the state with a snowpack 101 percent of average.
