Hospital Decision Defended As Recall Effort Mounts

Hospital board members defended Tuesday evening their decision to change administrators at Shoshone Medical Center, while some Silver Valley residents collected signatures on a petition to recall them.

More than 200 people attended a meeting at Kellogg Middle School. Some of them, including doctors and staff members, gave emotional speeches about issues that divide what board member Terry Spohr called “a dysfunctional medical community.”

Four of six board members voted last week not to renew the contract of Med Management Inc. and its co-owner, hospital chief executive officer Bob Morasko.

While calling Morasko a brilliant man and a capable administrator, board vice chairman Robert Launhardt said that half of the hospital’s department managers do not respect Morasko.

“If they don’t respect him and don’t like him, I seriously doubt he can bring West Shoshone Hospital District together,” Launhardt said.
