Janet Johnson Bonners Ferry
Service for Janet Marion Johnson, 68, will be today at 10 a.m. at the Bonners Ferry Funeral Home. Private burial will take place at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry.
Mrs. Johnson, who was born in Bonners Ferry, died Wednesday.
She grew up and attended schools in the Moravia/Moyie area near Bonners Ferry. She moved to Seattle in 1950 and worked as a radio operator for Westmont Lumber Co.
Mrs. Johnson returned to Bonners Ferry in 1953 and worked as a housekeeper and then worked for the Bonners Ferry Veterinary Clinic for many years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Loyle Peterson, in 1962.
Survivors include her husband, John Johnson; a daughter, Roseann Haws of Hermiston, Ore.; two sons, Samuel Reifsteck of Bonners Ferry and Loyle Peterson of Sandpoint; a brother, Charles Reifsteck of Bonners Ferry; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Mary Milks Hayden
Service for Mary Elizabeth Milks, 57, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Burial will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Milks, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Wednesday.
She grew up and attended Coeur d’Alene High School and later became a head cook for both Pinewood Care Center and Coeur d’Alene Convalescent Center before early retirement due to health reasons.
Mrs. Milks was a member of the Rathdrum Bible Church.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Ray; four sons, Raymond Milks of Rathdrum, Randy Milks of Post Falls, Roy Milks of Spirit Lake, and Rick Milks of Hayden; two daughters, Rosemary Koski of Spirit Lake and Roxanne Plummer of Post Falls; mother, Minnie Symons of Hayden Lake; two brothers, John and Sam Symons, both of Hayden Lake; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

June Bowler Spokane
Graveside service for June Maxine Bowler, 76, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bowler, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Tuesday.
She worked as a cashier until her retirement at Fairchild Air Force Base.
Mrs. Bowler was a member of the Carousel Dance Club, Ladies of the Moose in Spokane and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474 Auxiliary.
Survivors include her companion, Otho Nelson of Spokane; two sons, Michael Bowler of Coeur d’Alene and Anthony Bowler of Spokane; a brother, Len Enos of Spokane; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pearl Gering Sackmann Ritzville, Wash.
Visitation for Pearl Gering Sackmann, 90, will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Ritzville. Service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Concluding service and vault interment will follow at the Ritzville Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Sackmann, who was born in Odessa, Wash., died Thursday.
She married Joseph Gering in 1926 and they lived on the family farm west of Ritzville for many years. He died in 1972.
In 1975, she married William Sackmann and they lived on the Sackmann farm near Lind, Wash. He died in 1987 and she moved back to Ritzville.
Mrs. Sackmann was a member of the Crossroads Christian Assembly of God Church in Ritzville.
Survivors include three sons, Gayle Gering of Ritzville, Sidney Gering of Las Vegas and Dennis Gering of Spokane; four daughters, Gladys Morales of Warrenville, Ill., Joyce Clark of Ritzville, JoAnn Lytle of Redmond, Wash., and Marcine Kravitz of Salem, Ore.; a brother, Harry Fink of Coeur d’Alene; two sisters, Leona Kuest of Odessa and Jean Biermann of Bellevue, Wash.; 22 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Jess Whitehead St. Maries
Memorial service for Jess J. Whitehead, 86, will be today at 11 a.m. at Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries.
Mr. Whitehead, who was born Tekoa, Wash., died Wednesday.
He grew up in Tekoa and Emida, Idaho, and then worked as a gold miner in the Hoo Doo Mountains.
He lived in St. Maries for 55 years and worked as a trapper and logger and made fence posts and poles.
Mr. Whitehead also drove a Caterpillar and helped in the construction of the Hepton Lake dike west of St. Maries in the 1940s.
He built roads for Benewah County and owned his own logging business.
Mr. Whitehead had a postal route to Avery, Idaho, and retired as a park custodian for the city of St. Maries.
He was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and the St. Maries Eagles Lodge.
His wife of 56 years, Esther, died in 1997.
Survivors include two sons, Jim and John Whitehead, both of St. Maries; four daughters, Lela Morris of Plummer, Idaho, Paula Johannes of Rochester, Wash., Jeanne Miller of St. Maries, and Nancy Wadsworth of Lewiston; two brothers, Albert Whitehead of Oregon and Don Whitehead of Spokane; a sister, Bonnie Smith of Oregon; 17 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Norma Houx Spokane
Visitation for Norma J. Houx, 71, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.
Born in St. Joseph, Mo., Mrs. Houx died Wednesday.
She moved to Spokane in 1952.
She was a homemaker and taught ceramics in her home.
Mrs. Houx was a member of the Northwest Christian Fellowship, a women’s Bible study group.
Her husband of 39 years, Robert Houx, died in 1991.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherrill Dricker of Coeur d’Alene; two sons, Michael Houx of Athol, Idaho, and Scott Houx of Post Falls; two brothers, Edwin Sprague of St. Joseph and Harold Sprague of Lakewood, Colo.; a sister, Juanita McCauley of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Ruth Whitney Ford, Wash.
Service for Ruth Irene Whitney, 63, will be at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Springdale, Wash. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Jump Off Joe, Wash. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Whitney, who was born in Cle Elum, Wash., died Tuesday.
She was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Springdale.
Survivors include her husband, Fred; four sons, Joe Whitney of Otis Orchards, Mark Whitney of Loon Lake, Scott Whitney of Republic, Wash., and James Whitney of Priest River, Idaho; a daughter, Cheryl Ritchie of Longview, Wash.; a brother, Bud Fry of Seattle; two sisters, Jessie Kudder of Issaquah, Wash., and Eloise Carrol of Lacy, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren.
Clarence Carlson Pinehurst, Idaho
Service for Clarence E. Carlson, 91, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the New Hope Assembly of God Church in Pinehurst. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Carlson, who was born in North Dakota, died Wednesday.
He moved to the Silver Valley 58 years ago from Alberta and worked as an electrician on construction sites.
Mr. Carlson had been a champion bronco rider in Canada and was a member of the New Hope Assembly of God Church and a former member of the Knights of Pythias.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian; a daughter, Candy Messuri of Smelterville, Idaho; a sister, Laura Stemm of Spokane; one granddaughter and three great-grandchildren.
Grace Wise Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for Grace M. Wise, 79, will be held Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the McGuire Wesleyan Church in Post Falls.
Mrs. Wise, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Jan. 30.
She was a lifelong Coeur d’Alene resident and worked as a legal secretary for Ward Arney and later his son, Pat Arney, in Coeur d’Alene, for 30 years.
Mrs. Wise was a member of the McGuire Wesleyan Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Harold, in 1988.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Morse-Hooper of Greenacres; a sister, Marie McDaniel of Post Falls; three grandchildren; and five great-grandsons.
Angela Halter Chewelah, Wash.
Vigil service for Angela D. Halter, 88, will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Rosary Catholic Church in Chewelah. Burial will follow at Chewelah Catholic Cemetery.
Mrs. Halter, who was born in Nez Perce, Idaho, died Wednesday.
Her family moved to Chewelah in 1924.
In 1936 she married William Halter in Chewelah.
She worked at Holy Family Hospital in Spokane for about 20 years in the kitchen and linen department.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Pauline Stolp of Chewelah and Bernice Perry of Beaverton, Ore.; a son, David Halter of Boise; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Floyd Griffith Spokane
Memorial gathering for Floyd Griffith, 77, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at 4815 W. Alpine Drive. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Griffith, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Wednesday.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Griffith was a member of Friends of Seven.
Survivors include his wife, Iris; two sons, Steve Griffith of Cheney and Scott Griffith of Spokane; two daughters, Barbara Melis and Mary Ferguson, both of Spokane; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Herman Kinney Spokane
Private family memorial service for Herman Franklin Kinney, 92, will be today at the Royal Plaza Chapel. Private burial was at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mr. Kinney, who died Thursday, was born in Blackfoot, Idaho.
He was raised on a farm in the Snake River Valley in Idaho.
He worked for D.A. Sullivan Construction Co. in Spokane, building roads in Washington and Idaho.
In 1933 he married Aileen Shafer in Colfax, Wash., and in 1934 they bought a dairy farm near Springdale, Wash.
While farming, Mr. Kinney also worked as the supervisor for the Stevens County road crew.
In 1952 the family moved to Chewelah, Wash., where he continued to work for Stevens County, and in 1956 they moved to Colville, Wash., where he worked surveying roads until 1959, when he moved back to Spokane and went back to work for D.A. Sullivan doing road construction and rock crushing.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Donna Hooper of Spokane, Doris Olson of Blue Creek, Wash., and Marilyn Kinney of Monitor, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Gayle Anderson Redmond, Wash.
Private service was held for Trula Gayle Anderson..
Mrs. Anderson, 78, died Jan. 28. She was born in Aberdeen, Wash.
Mrs. Anderson was an artist. She received her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of Washington and later obtained her Master of Fine Arts and Master of Arts in teaching degrees.
Mrs. Anderson taught all phases of art at the Washington State University Extension Center in Spokane, at Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College for 25 years.
With her husband, Andy, she established the Kona-Mini Gallery and the Art Academy of Kona in Hawaii and for 17 years taught for the University of Hawaii-Hilo, Kona Campus.
Mrs. Anderson’s work has been on exhibit across the United State and internationally and is in collections all over the world.
She was a signature member of the National College Society, Hawaii Watercolor Society, Northwest Watercolor Society, Print Making Guild of Honolulu and numerous other educational and art associations.
She also was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435 Ladies Auxiliary in Spokane, of which she was past president and district president in Washington state.
Mrs. Anderson lived in Spokane about 25 years and then moved to Hawaii, where she lived for 17 years. She moved to Redmond from Hawaii a little over a year ago.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years; a son, Arvid Anderson of Gig Harbor, Wash.; two daughters, Christina Chouinard of Woodinville, Wash., and Billie Sack of Florida; a brother, John Johnson of Port Townsend, Wash.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Rose King Spokane
Vigil service for Rose V. King, 97, will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mrs. King, a 63-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.
She was born in Plainview, Neb.
Mrs. King was a registered nurse and worked at Edgecliff Sanitarium.
She was a member of St. Patrick Parish and Altar Society.
Her husband, Brendan King, died in 1988.
Survivors include a brother, Dan Simpson of Spokane.

Muriel ‘Merle’ (Kendall) McCroskey Spokane
Visitation for Muriel ‘Merle’ (Kendall) McCroskey, 91, will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service is planned for 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
Mrs. McCroskey, who was born in Oakesdale, Wash., died Wednesday.
She moved to Spokane from Oakesdale 35 years ago and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, Frank McCroskey, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mary Kendall and numerous nieces and nephews.
