Mariners Lose Money

Although the Mariners drew a club-record 3,192,237 fans at home, they claim they still lost $4.1 million.

The M’s became the fifth franchise to draw more than 3 million fans in a season, ranking third in the A.L. in attendance. They also increased revenue from $57.9 million to $78.4 million.

Outfielder Gerald Williams and the Atlanta Braves agreed to a one-year contract that guarantees him $1,325,000.

Carlos Perez, second on Montreal in wins last season (12-13), got a seven-fold salary increase when he agreed to a $1.5 million, one-year contract.

The San Francisco Giants named Jim Fregosi assistant to general manager Brian Sabean, a year after he joined the organization as a special assignment scout and instructor.

Left-hander Allen Watson and the Anaheim Angels avoided arbitration when they agreed to a $2.9 million, one-year contract, a raise of $1.6 million.
