Carlson, Selkirk Whip Inchelium; Republic, St. George’s Win

Selkirk appears to be in prime form as it continues a quest for its first boys State B tournament appearance since 1973.

Sophomore Cody Carlson scored 22 points and had 13 rebounds as the Rangers (18-3) defeated visiting Inchelium 95-46 at Ione during Wednesday’s opening-round play of the Panorama League tournament.

Selkirk shot 38 of 76 from the field while winning its ninth consecutive game.

The double-elimination tourney continues at 6 p.m. Saturday, with Selkirk hosting Republic in a winner-to-district game and Inchelium (6-14) playing a loser-out at Northwest Christian.

Kenny Gliddon scored all seven of his points in the final 3 minutes as the Tigers (16-5) rallied past the visiting Crusaders (12-9).

NWC took the lead in the third quarter and held it through much of the final quarter. Republic made nine late free throws, four by Chad Dinkins and three by Gliddon.

Drew Moser hit 4 of 8 3-pointers and the Dragons (16-5) made 13 of 21 first-half field goals to pull away from the visiting Redskins (10-9) and notch their fifth consecutive win.

St. George’s finished 7 of 16 from long range and had 11 steals.

St. George’s travels to second-ranked Curlew (18-3) at 6 p.m. Saturday in a winner-to-district game. Wellpinit hosts Cusick (8-12) at the same time in a loser-out.
