Dear Heloise: Using a permanent marker, I make a circle around the opening of all my spray cans, including hair spray and air freshener. One always knows how to hold the can at once. It is safer for children.

Sometime back, someone wrote of ways to signal and wondered if others had similar things. Years ago, my son installed an intercom. One part is high above the doorbell and the other handy inside. I never go near the door until I turn it on and ask, “Who is it, please?” I feel safer and really love it. Everyone living alone should have one! - Pearl B. Overmyer, Niles, Mich.
