Shirley McCroskey Michaelsen Spokane
Memorial service for Shirley McCroskey Michaelsen, 79, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Music Auditorium Building 15 at Spokane Falls Community College. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Michaelsen, who was born near Colfax, Wash., died Sunday.
She was raised in Colfax and graduated from the University of Washington, where she was affiliated with Delta Gamma Sorority. She later earned her master’s degree in education from Whitworth College.
After her marriage to Robert Michaelsen, they lived in St. Petersburg, Alaska, and Seattle before moving to Cheney, where they lived for 30 years. She moved to Spokane 20 years ago.
Mrs. Michaelsen was a speech instructor at Spokane Community College from 1967 to 1972 and Dean of Women from 1972 to 1976.
As coordinator for the District Women’s Continuing Education Program from 1976 to 1983, she laid the foundation for one of the strongest programs in the Northwest.
She, along with the late Betty Hammond, established the Displaced Homemaker Center in 1979 and was executive dean of the Institute for Extended Learning at the Community Colleges of Spokane from 1983 to 1988.
Mrs. Michaelsen was awarded the Woman of Distinction Award, YWCA Outstanding Leader Award, Personalities of the West and Midwest Award, Distinguished Speech Teachers Award Women of Excellence Award, First Annual Western Women’s Career Excellence Award and the Civil Leader Award KSPO Radio.
She was a member of Pi Lambda Theta, National Educational Scholarship Honorary, YWCA Leaders Lunch and the Washington State Speech Association.
Her husband died in 1985.
Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Dilling of Seattle and Gail Nelson of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shirley and Betty Fund at the Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation. The fund provides support services for Life Skills/Women’s Programs students.
Sheldon ‘Andy’ Anderson Spokane
Service for Sheldon M. “Andy” Anderson, 81, will be at 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace Cemetery.
Mr. Anderson, who was a lifelong resident of Spokane, died Sunday.
He was born in Nelson, Mich., and moved to Spokane as a child.
Mr. Anderson worked in the field of aviation in Spokane for many years as an electrician and aircraft mechanic.
He was a retired member of the Brotherhood of Operating Engineers 370.
His wife, Marie, died in 1992.
Survivors include two daughters, Glenda Johnson of Spokane and Janice Grabke of Seattle; three sons, Ross Anderson of Montana, and Roger and William Anderson both of Spokane; a sister, Winona Becker of Spokane; numerous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Spokane Humane Society.
Hilda Davis Spokane
Service for Hilda Davis, 88, will be at 1 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mrs. Davis, who was born in Texas and came to Glasgow, Mont., by covered wagon, died Tuesday.
She moved to Spokane from Sanders, Idaho, in 1946 and owned a second-hand store and service station in Otis Orchards for a number of years.
Her husband, Harvey Davis, preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Harry, Bill and Jim Davis, all of Spokane; two daughters, Shirley Schulz and Betty Taylor, both of Spokane; a brother, Johnny Berreth of Sanders; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Elbridge Puckett Spokane
Memorial service for Elbridge Smith Puckett, 68, was Thursday at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Born in Wallace, Idaho, Mr. Puckett died Monday.
He worked as a private consultant for labor relations.
Mr. Puckett was a 19-year Spokane resident.
Survivors include a daughter, Tamara Anderson of California; a son, Elbridge Puckett of Davis, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
Elsie Ailes Spokane
Memorial service for Elsie Alberta Ailes, 94, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hawthorne Manor. Cremains will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - North is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ailes, who was born in Pittsburgh, died Sunday.
She graduated in 1921 from Wilkinsburg High School in Pennsylvania and in 1924 from Hood College in Frederick, Md.
In 1928 she married Clarence Ailes in Wilkinsburg, and she had been a resident of Spokane for 10 years.
Mrs. Ailes was a homemaker.
She was a member of the American Association of University Women, Whitworth Presbyterian Church and the Women’s Association.
Her husband died in 1988.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. William Ailes of Spokane; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Betty Bell Badger Lake
Visitation for Betty L. Bell, 59, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Cheney Funeral Chapel. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Bell, who was born in Morton, Wash., died Tuesday.
She graduated from high school in Beaverton, Ore., and in 1958 married Donald Bell in Beaverton.
They moved to Cheney in 1964 and to Badger Lake in 1965.
Mrs. Bell was active in managing their ranch where they raised registered polled Hereford cattle.
She was a member of the Diakonia Club in Cheney.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Peyton Bell, and a son, Marc Bell, both of Spokane; her mother, Marjorie Morgan of Cheney; two sisters, Judy Stephenson of Carson City, Nev., and Connie Demers of Wenatchee; a brother, Jim Stephenson of Spokane; and five grandchildren.
Darlene Leuschel Spokane
Service for Darlene M. Leuschel, 59, will be at 3 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.
Mrs. Leuschel, who died Tuesday, was born in New Salem, N.D.
She was a 27-year Spokane resident and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Paul; two sons, Kevin and James Leuschel, both of Spokane; two sisters, Leota Prufeerst of Lynnwood, Wash., and Garnet Haider of Coulee City, Wash.; and four grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice of Spokane.
Lois Boggess Colfax, Wash.
Memorial service for Lois P. Boggess, 79, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash.
Mrs. Boggess, who was born in Decatur, Ill., died Friday.
In 1935, she married Martin Boggess and they settled in Palouse, Wash., in 1958.
She worked as a waitress for many years at the Oriental Restaurant in Pullman and at the Oasis Cafe in Palouse.
Mrs. Boggess also worked as a bartender at the Silver Saddle in Potlatch, Idaho, for two years. She retired in 1978.
Her husband died in 1987. In 1990, she moved to Colfax.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna White of Palouse; a sister, Ruth Pritchard of Kenai, Alaska; three grandsons and three greatgrandchildren.

Nora Lindelouf Spokane
Service for Nora Emila Lindelouf, 95, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Pines Cemetery.
Miss Lindelous, who was a 62-year resident of Spokane, died Monday.
She was born in North Dakota and worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Company for many years as a salesperson and instructor.
Miss Lindelous was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was active in Grace Lutheran Women making quilts for missionaries.
Survivors include two nieces, Helen Pierce of LaCenter, Wash., and Zella of Spokane; and two nephews, Rodney Smith of Florida and Harold Foster of Denver.

Margaret Baker Spokane
No service will be held for Margaret F. Baker. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Baker, 76, died Jan. 13.
She was born in Topeka, Kan., and was raised in El Centro, Calif.
Mrs. Baker worked as the administrative assistant to the dean of education at the College of the Desert in Palm Desert, Calif. She also typed the manuscripts of former President Dwight Eisenhower’s biographies.
In 1986, Mrs. Baker moved to Spokane, where she has been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Lady Eagles Lodge 2.
Her husband, George Baker, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Richard Bailey of Medford, Ore.; a daughter, Bonnie Bailey of Essex Junction, Vt.; a brother, Joe Morehouse of Hemet, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Hellen O’Sullivan Spokane
Private family memorial service for Hellen G. O’Sullivan, 88, will be held at the family home at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. O’Sullivan, who had been a resident of Spokane for 69 years, died Feb. 4.
She was born in South Dakota and worked as a homemaker.
Mrs. O’Sullivan was a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include three sons, George Olson of Spokane, Stan Olson of Coeur d’Alene and Earl Olson of Redding, Pa.; a brother, Walter Scott of Bemidji, Minn.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Hazel Roberg Spokane
Funeral Mass for Hazel Fern Roberg, 94, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Roberg, who was born in Moline, Ill., died Feb. 6.
She retired after 30 years from Geiger Field and Fairchild Air Force Base in the communications field.
Mrs. Roberg was a resident of Spokane for 70 years and a member of St. Augustine Parish.
Her first husband, Cotter Madden, died in 1929. Her second husband, Alfred Roberg, died in 1995.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Hirzel of Hat Island, Wash., and Patricia Helmbrecht of Spokane; two stepsons, Alfred Robert of Seattle and Dan Roberg of Salem, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

Gloria Case Ford, Wash.
No service will be held for Gloria J. Case, 76, at her request. HennesseySmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Case, a 29-year Ford resident, died Tuesday.
She was born in Yakima.
Mrs. Case was a homemaker.
Her husband, Larry Case, died in 1988.
Survivors include a son, Erret Nowlin of Juneau, Alaska; a brother, Buck Kincaid of Hollywood; two sisters, Mary Ann Jagow of Yakima and Betty Deason of Northport, Wash.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Malcom ‘Mac’ Richardson Otis Orchards
Memorial service for Malcom P. “Mac” Richardson, 57, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Valley Fourth Memorial Church. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Richardson, a 28-year Spokane resident, died Saturday.
He was born in Carberry, Manitoba.
Mr. Richardson worked for Washington Water Power for 28 years and was currently the company’s Spokane area coordinator.
Mr. Richardson was a member of the Otis Orchards Community Church and the Elks Club. He was active in Spokane Valley baseball, Cub Scouts and was a Webelo scout leader.
He was the recipient of the Golden Acorn Award and was a member of the Washington Water Power Trail Blazers for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Dale; three sons, Thomas Richardson of Mead, Peter Richardson of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Paul Richardson of Otis Orchards; two brothers, Murray Richardson of Medicine Hat, Alberta, and Ronald Richardson of Qualicum Beach, British Columbia; a sister, Jean Richardson of Winnipeg, Manitoba; and four grandchildren.

Louise Trail Moscow, Idaho
Memorial service for Louise Willman Trail, 86, was held at Sunset Vista Funeral Home in Yuma, Ariz. A second service will be held at a later date in Moscow, Idaho.
Mrs. Trail, who was born in Fairfield, died Monday in Yuma.
She graduated in 1929 from Fairfield High School and worked for the Moscow Idaho Seed Company.
In 1934 she married Floyd Trail.
Mrs. Trail was a deaconess in the First Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday school, was a 4-H club leader, a Camp Fire helper and was a foster mother to six children.
She was the first secretary-treasurer of the Latah County Mental Health Association, treasurer of the Latah County Humane Society, worked as a Gray Lady at the Latah Care Center and served as treasurer of the Foothills Branch of the Yuma County Friends of the Library in Arizona.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Thomas and David Trail both of Moscow, Idaho; two daughters, Marilyn Trail of Spokane and Susan Trail of Ellensburg; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of the Palouse, Logos School or the Latah County Historical Society.
Scarlett Hayes Spokane
Memorial service for Scarlett J. Hayes, 59, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Manito Park Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Ms. Hayes, who was born in Decatur, Mich., died Monday.
She moved to Spokane as a child and worked as an adult family home provider for more than 20 years.
Ms. Hayes was a member of the Manito Park Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for more than 30 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Connie LeValley, Diana Rehn and Rhonda Hayes, all of Spokane; four sons, Blayne, Deryk and Zachary Terril and Aaron Hayes, all of Spokane; two sisters, Liz Betts of Spokane and Sharon Dassell of Evansville, Ind.; and 13 grandchildren.
Esther Van Alstyne Spokane
Memorial service for Esther S. Van Alstyne, 82, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Spokane Valley Baptist Church. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Van Alstyne, who was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, died Monday.
She lived in Spokane from 1915 to 1962, and then moved back here in 1987.
Mrs. Van Alstyne sold dairy products in downtown Spokane for many years.
She also owned and operated a drive-in movie theater in Newport, Wash., and retired from Matson Lines in Seattle in 1971.
Mrs. Van Alstyne was a member of the Spokane Valley Baptist Church.
Her husband, Del Van Alstyne, died in 1949.
Survivors include a sister, Ruth Jenkins of Veradale; and two brothers, Robert Schmidt of Veradale and William Schmidt of Spokane.

Allen Carter Renton, Wash.
Memorial service for Allen K. Carter, 92, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home in Seattle.
Mr. Carter, who was born in Fairmont, Neb., died Tuesday.
He worked as an independent insurance agent until his retirement in 1968.
Mr. Carter was a 30-year resident of Spokane before moving to Renton in 1981.
Mr. Carter was a member of the Falls City Lodge Number 66, Scottish Rite 32nd Degree, El Katif Shrine, Palamino Patrol, Sons of the American Revolution, Renton Shrine Club and was a representative of the Masonic Service Association of the United States.
He was a volunteer at the Veterans hospitals in Spokane and Seattle.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife of 56 years, Audrey; two sons, Bill and Craig Carter; two daughters, Arlene Jacob and Mary Ann Unger; a sister, Mary Beisner; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.
Clara Ledgerwood San Diego
Service for Clara Kay Ledgerwood, 89, was Jan. 26 at the Glen Abby Little Chapel of Roses at the Glen Abby Memorial Park and Mortuary in Bonita, Calif.
Mrs. Ledgerwood, who was born in Rosalia, Wash., died Jan. 20.
In 1926 she married Kenneth Ledgerwood.
She was a 52-year Spokane resident and worked at several Spokane establishments including the Manito Country Club and The Desert Inn Hotel.
Mr. and Mrs. Ledgerwood moved to San Diego in 1997.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Kenneth Ledgerwood of San Diego; a sister, Ruby Matthews of Spokane; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
