Beal Hits Jumper; Shadle Escapes

GSL boys basketball

Tim Beal’s jumper from the lane with 4 seconds left in overtime lifted Shadle Park to a 46-44 win over University in a Greater Spokane League boys basketball game at U-Hi Friday night.

The Highlanders (5-13 overall, 4-12 GSL) won the tip to start the 4-minute overtime and kept the ball the whole time. As the clocked dipped under 10 seconds, Beal beat his man, penetrated into the lane and floated up a 10-foot shot as the defense closed in.

Brad Van Dyne helped U-Hi (1-17, 1-15) erase a late seven-point deficit. His 3-pointer with a minute to go tied the game. Then, after Eric Singleton scored on a 12-footer from the left wing with 10 seconds left, Van Dyne went coast-to-coast and was fouled with 4 seconds left.

He made both free throws to force the OT.

Van Dyne led all scorers with 17 points.
