Daniel’s Status Unclear For Oregon State Game

An X-ray of Washington State men’s basketball player Carlos Daniel’s ankle showed there was no fracture.

But it is not known whether Daniel, the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, can play in today’s game against Oregon State.

Dr. Richard Donati, the team physician, said Daniel is suffering from a high ankle sprain-bone bruise on his left ankle.

Daniel suffered the injury with about 11 minutes left in Thursday’s 64-63 loss to Oregon.

College baseball

An eight-run eighth inning, fueled by six Washington State walks, broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Arizona State Sun Devils a 9-1 win Friday over the Cougars at Packard Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.

WSU pitcher Jammal Gaines held the sixth-ranked Sun Devils to one run on three hits before yielding to the bullpen to start the eighth inning.

Dave Wheeler (0-1) opened the eighth by walking the only batter he faced and was charged with the loss.

Ryan Mills (3-1) pitched eight innings, allowing one run on two hits, to earn the victory for ASU (9-2).

WSU (2-2) will play the Sun Devils again tonight at 6 and conclude the three-game series with a noon contest Sunday.

Kyle Woods went 3 for 4 with two runs and four RBIs and Chris Magruder was 3 for 5 with one run and four RBIs to lead the Washington Huskies over Florida Atlantic 18-4 at Viera, Fla.
