Ach Stays On Track For Another State Trip

Boys basketball

Almira/Coulee-Hartline owns the longest current streak of appearances in the boys State B tournament.

The Warriors gave themselves a shot at a fourth consecutive state trip by edging Liberty 40-36 Tuesday in a winner-to-district, loser-out game in the Bi-County tournament at Reardan.

Ken Durrant and Brandon Leander scored four points apiece in the fourth quarter to help the Warriors (14-9) keep the Lancers (7-16) from rallying. Liberty defeated ACH during the league season.

ACH will play Odessa at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to determine the third and fourth seeds to the District 7-B tourney.

Odessa’s Scott Kramer made 7 of 8 free throws. Travis Telecky and Dale Buchanan hit four 3-pointers apiece and combined for 44 points.

Russell Lopes scored 29, hitting six 3-pointers, as the Rangers (19-4) eliminated the visiting Redskins (11-10).

Lopes made 12 of 17 field goals and added seven rebounds. Sheridan Pyeatt added 8-of-9 field-goal shooting for Selkirk, which shot 55 percent from the floor.

Selkirk plays St. George’s at 8 p.m. Thursday in Colville to determine the third and fourth seeds to the District 7-B tournament.

Ryan Thomsen and Tom DePonty combined for 25 points and 18 rebounds as the Dragons (17-6) eliminated the visiting Crusaders (13-10).

Dan Dhillon added six assists and five steals for St. George’s, which went 3-0 against NWC this year.

Mandi Walters scored 24, hitting 8 of 9 from the floor and 5 of 6 from the line, as the Falcons (14-8) eliminated the Lancers (12-10) at Reardan and moved into a district-qualifying game.

Noel Hatten added three 3-pointers for S-H, which swept Liberty 3-0 this year. The Falcons play Davenport at 5:45 p.m. Thursday in Reardan. The winner is No. 3 to district, the loser plays Panorama No. 4 for a district berth.

Liberty’s Jo Cory finished her career just shy of 1,100 points, second-most in school history to Liz Hahner. Jenesi Gardner scored 20 for the Lancers, hitting 6 of 6 free throws.
