EV Still Has Wv’s Number

District 8-3A basketball

East Valley finished behind West Valley in this year’s girls Border League standings, but their head-to-head competition continues to be a different matter.

EV overcame the Eagles’ long-range shooting to post a 53-48 win in Tuesday’s District 8-3A first round at Eastern Washington University.

The third-seeded Knights (9-12) are 3-0 against second-seeded WV (10-11) this year. EV advances to a winner-to-regional game, at 6:30 p.m. Friday at EWU against Cheney.

Shannon Groh and Danna Vermeers had a pair of 3-pointers apiece for WV, which plays Clarkston at 3 p.m. Friday in a loser-out.
