On-Line School Tests Services With WSU

From Staff And Wire Reports

One of the nation’s largest on-line universities has launched a test program with participating schools.

The 17-member Western Governors University said it has begun testing an on-line catalog and student-advising service with Washington State University and others who hope to begin the unique university this year.

WSU will supply back-office services, such as student registration and payment. The University of New Mexico will provide an electronic library and Follett Campus Resources is creating an on-line bookstore.

The initial tests are nearly one year behind schedule, but Salt Lake City-based Western Governors still expects to tap about 100 selected students later this year for a trial enrollment.

Students eventually may enroll in several programs, ranging from technical certificates to graduate degrees. However, Western Governors University initially will offer degrees in Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Arts and a Certificate in Electronics Manufacturing Technology.
