Church Takes Over Work Center

From Staff And Wire Reports

The historic Shoshone Work Center, owned by the U.S. Forest Service, will be used starting this summer by the Inland Northwest Lutheran Outdoor Ministries.

The complex of buildings is near the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests.

Vacant for 15 years, it was considered as a possible state juvenile detention center. That idea was abandoned when Shoshone County residents objected.

Now it will be the Shoshone Base Camp, run by the same organization that operates Camp Lutherhaven on Lake Coeur d’Alene. It has a five-year special use permit to use the buildings.

“Shoshone Base Camp is a great chance for us to introduce a whole new family of quality, cutting-edge Christian camping, environmental ed and outdoor recreational opportunities,” executive director Bob Baker said.
