Duval Blazes To Course Record, Grabs Chrysler Classic Lead
David Duval gave the rest of the field something to shoot for, making two eagles on the front nine and hitting the flagstick on the final hole during a 10-under-par 62 round Friday at the Tucson Chrysler Classic in Tucson, Ariz.
Heavy afternoon rain washed out half of the second round, keeping anyone from approaching Duval’s 36-hole score of 16-under 128 - the best ever on the 7,148-yard Tucson National course.
First-day leader Justin Leonard and Scott Hoch were seven shots back at 135. Former Pullman resident Kirk Triplett shot a 70 for a 142 total.
Dana Dormann shot a 6-under-par 66 to reach the 36-hole mark of the Hawaiian Ladies Open in Kapolei, Hawaii, at a record 132 and open a two-stroke lead over Wendy Ward. Dale Eggeling was alone in third at 135. Tracy Hanson, of Rathdrum, Idaho, was at 137.
Larry Nelson shot the lowest round of his Senior Tour career, a 9-under-par 63 that earned him a two-shot lead after the opening round of the American Express Invitational in Sarasota, Fla.
