Highlights from the past week in the Idaho Legislature:

They said it

“Throw someone off a bridge - if you tie a cement weight around his neck he’ll probably drown. We just tied a cement weight around the necks of the local officials.” - House Minority Leader Jim Stoicheff about the defeat of a bill that would have allowed communities to vote to exempt their local officials from term limits.

Votes

Here are some of North Idaho lawmakers’ votes in the past week:

Doctor who: The Senate passed 31-2 a bill that would make it easier for patients to find background information on health care professionals. Voting yes were Sens. Clyde Boatright, R-Rathdrum; Gordon Crow, R-Hayden; Shawn Keough, R-Sandpoint; Marguerite McLaughlin, D-Orofino; and Jack Riggs, R-Coeur d’Alene.

Limit votes: The House State Affairs Committee voted 11-8 for a statewide advisory vote on whether to repeal term limits, state and local. If voters chose to dump term limits, it would be up to the Legislature to revoke the law.

Voting yes was Rep. June Judd, D-St. Maries. Voting no were Reps. Jeff Alltus, R-Hayden; and Jim Stoicheff, D-Sandpoint.

State savings: The House passed a bill, 48-16, that would force the state to build a large savings account. Voting yes were Reps. Jeff Alltus, R-Hayden; John Campbell, R-Sandpoint; Jim Clark, R-Hayden Lake; Charles Cuddy, D-Orofino; and Hilde Kellogg, R-Post Falls. Voting no were Reps. June Judd, D-St. Maries; Wayne Meyer, R-Rathdrum; Don Pischner, R-Coeur d’Alene; Jim Stoicheff, D-Sandpoint; and Larry Watson, D-Wallace.
