Bandanna Watch
Backwards passes will be treated like fumbles during the next college football season and bandannas could be on the way out.
In its annual meeting in Kansas City, Mo., last week, the NCAA football rules committee said backward passes can be recovered and advanced by the defense, the same as fumbles.
The committee also decided to monitor players’ wearing bandannas for a year and consider a ban.
While the colorful headware has become popular with players, they have come under scrutiny because they also are used by street gangs.
The panel also voted to require that all members of a game’s officiating crew come from the same conference.
