New Plates Would Aid Olympics Fund
New Idaho license plates featuring skiing may be used to generate money for Idaho’s Olympic promotions.
The House voted 52-17 Tuesday for legislation allowing an Idaho snow-skier license plate. From the sale of each plate, $10 would go into a fund to promote Idaho as a training ground and tourist attraction before and during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
The bill goes to the Senate.
Rep. Paul Kjellander, R-Boise, said the industry estimates the plate would generate $140,000. The cost of developing the plate would be paid by the Idaho Ski Areas Association and the final design would have to be approved by the Idaho Transportation Department.
