Post Falls Dominates Inaugural Border League Awards

It was nearly a Post Falls High sweep in most of the honors in the first edition of Border League basketball.

In boys honors, the Quesnells - son Chad, father Wade - were named Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively. Chad Quesnell, a 5-foot-9 senior, averaged 20 points per game.

He’s joined on the first team by Casey Hoorelbeke (6-6, sr.) of league champ Coeur d’Alene, Paul Malisani (6-4, sr.) of Cheney, Chad Cheeley (6-0, sr.) of Lake City, Jim Rupp (5-10, sr.) of CdA, Carson Egland (6-8, sr.) of Lewiston and Brad Groh (6-3, junior) of West Valley.

Second-teamers are: James Kiger (6-3, sr.) of Cheney, Jason Eck (6-3, jr.) of Lewiston, Andrew Burgess (6-2, sophomore) of East Valley, Steve Johnson (6-5, sr.) of Lewiston and Pat Stiffler (5-8, sr.) of Cheney.

Burgess also was named Newcomer of the Year.

In the girls honors, LC senior standout Lindsay Herbert was named the league’s MVP. She averaged 15 points for the league champs.

Herbert is joined on the first team by Anna Getz (5-8, sr.) of Cheney, Janelle Ruen (5-11, jr.) of Post Falls, Gabby McClintock (5-9, sr.) of WV, Alison Asher (6-4, sr.) of LC and Kara Weitman (5-8, jr.) of Cheney.

Named to the second team were: Kim Wegner (6-0, sr.) of Lewiston, Shaylia Davis (6-0, soph.) of CdA, Laura Dodge (6-0, jr.) of LC, Carmi Eberle (5-2, soph.) of Post Falls and Rebecca Triplett (6-0, jr.) of EV.

Chris Johnson of Post Falls was named Coach of the Year. Post Falls freshman Desiree Johnson was named Newcomer of the Year.

Tourney correction

The North Star League’s boys postseason tournament will begin Thursday, not Tuesday as published.

Play begins with two elimination games, a single loser-out game Friday and the district title game Saturday afternoon at 1.

League champ Lakeside automatically qualified for state by winning league. It will play the survivor of the loser-out games Saturday for the district title and seeding to state.
