Fire At Former Holiday Hills Ski Area Under Investigation
Spokane Valley fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed the former Holiday Hills ski and recreation area near Liberty Lake late Wednesday.
The fire, which began about 11:30 p.m., raged for more than an hour as firefighters worked to keep the flames from igniting brush and trees off Country Vista Road.
The cause of Wednesday’s blaze has not been determined.
The short-lived resort has been plagued by repeated vandalism and arson, including an October 1997 attic fire.
The 9,000-square-foot building has been vacant since 1977 when developer Charles Williams sold the property to Seattle-based Liberty Lake Investments.
The property and surrounding 581 acres was recently acquired by Jireh Development of Post Falls, who announced plans late last year to build a large-scale housing development on the land. , DataTimes
