Alpine skiing/snowboarding

Silver Mountain will host the First Security Winter Games this weekend. The downhill competition will be Saturday. Sunday will bring the Shred Shed Board-Cross, an event that tests snowboarding ability. Helmets are required. Registration is $10 each day plus the cost of a lift ticket. All snowboarders are invited to a half-pipe competition at the Panarama Resort in British Columbia on Sunday. The event will be judged on height, distance and variety. Registration is $10. Info: (250) 342-6941.

The Fernie Resort in B.C. will hold its annual Griz Days this weekend, starting Friday. The festival consists of a telemark classic race, a torchlight downhill run and a Dummy Downhill. Dances will be held both nights and everyone is welcome. Info: (250) 423-4655.

Saturday is busy at 49 Degrees North as it holds the Scheimo Cup, the EWU Hillclimb Race and the Freestyle Bump Competition. Info - 935-6649.

Nordic skiing

In the Methow Valley, the entire Rendevous system has been groomed in the Mazama area as well as base-camp trails. On the Methow Community Trail, the part from town to Power’s Plunge and back to town has been closed for the season.

Snowmobiling

In Shoshone County this week, trails have been groomed at Pineapple Pass, Bear Skull and from 201 Rd. to Dismal Lake.
