Local Air Passenger Traffic Slips Again
Passenger traffic at Spokane International Airport started the year with more declines from record levels of activity set in 1996.
In January, 217,330 passengers got on or off airplanes at the airport, 10.76 percent fewer than the same month in 1997. Last year produced a slight decline in passenger traffic at the airport, the first such decline after several years of double-digit growth.
Freight activity continued its upward trend during January, though. During the month, almost 4,700 tons of freight and mail came through the airport, an 8.5 percent increase over volume in January 1997.
Felts Field Airport had a 16.5 percent increase in flight operations over January 1997, but its freight activity was down 72 percent compared with January 1997.
