Pullman Girls Send Newport To Sidelines

2A basketball

Christa Brossman scored 29 points, including three back-to-back 3-pointers in the third quarter, as Pullman (9-12, 5-10) upset Newport (16-5, 10-5) Friday night in a District 7-2A loser-out basketball game at Mt. Spokane.

GNL scoring leader Carey Sauer led Newport, contributing 20 of her 24 points in the first half and picking up 10 rebounds.

Pullman will play Riverside at 2 p.m. today. The winner will advance to the state tournament.

Jacki Albertson had six of her 14 points in the fourth quarter to seal the win for the Cougars (14-7, 9-6), ending the Indians’ (8-13, 4-11) season.

Chewelah will play Lakeside at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the state tournament.

Travis Meserve’s 23 points carried the Cougars (15-6, 11-4) to a win over the Rams (6-15, 4-11), ending Riverside’s season.

Josh Parrish had 11 of his 21 points for the Cougars in the third quarter.

Chewelah plays Medical Lake at 3:45 today with the winner going to state.

Eric Anderson had 12 of his 17 points in the first quarter and Shane Meinhold was perfect on four 3-pointers in the first half to send the Indians on their way to a win over the Grizzlies.

Newport has been eliminated, and Colville will play Pullman at 8:45 tonight. The winner of that game will advance to the state tournament.
