Starbucks Chairman Makes The Big Bucks

From Staff And Wire Reports

Howard Schultz, chairman and chief executive of Starbucks Corp., received about $2.11 million in compensation last year, more than doubling his 1996 income.

Starbucks, a Seattle-based coffee roaster that owns more than 1,300 coffee shops, paid Schultz about $861,440 in 1996.

The 44-year-old executive, who founded Starbucks in 1985, received an annual salary of $740,385 for the fiscal year ended Sept. 28, 1997, according to a proxy statement filed Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission. That compares with a $493,654 paycheck for fiscal 1996. Schultz also received a $487,500 bonus last year.
