Woman Held On Counterfeiting Charges
A 28-year-old woman was being held Tuesday in the Lewis County Jail, suspected of involvement in a counterfeiting and forgery ring that extended into Pierce County.
Police Detective Glenn Teeter said the case involves counterfeit $10, $20 and $50 bills. They have been made using a high-quality color copier, but Teeter said they have a basic characteristic: Each bill has horizontal white bars across its face, caused by a flaw in the copier.
Stephany McKendry, of Centralia, is awaiting formal charges in the case. Teeter said other people are being sought.
Teeter could provide no estimate of how many bogus bills have been passed.
The Secret Service is aiding in the investigation.
